We left Opua at midday on 13 May with 10 other sailing vessels. Westerly winds 15-25 knots was ideal, we reefed main sail to reef 1 and genoa too and Pointzero was comfortably reaching 9-10 knots. The sea state was pretty rough though and the night very very chilly. Just as the sun disappeared from the horizon, we discovered unpleasant smell in the saloon - diesel from our fuel tanks, but couldn't find leaking point. Later on today Andrea found it near our boiler - small amount, nevertheless, the thorough investigation will be undergone later on. There was another "funny" smell coming from the stern locker to our stern cabin. I discovered it first while trying to sleep, then my stomach and after that Andrea. A culprit was a jerry can filled with petrol for our dinghy. Once we opened hatches, that smell disappeared quickly, but it still took me 3 rapid visits to our head/toilet. I felt much better outside in the cockpit, although it was very cold.We both saw amazingly beautiful rainbow. Shall I call it moon bow because it appeared during night? We clearly saw her begging and end; the color inside of the arch of the rainbow was many shades lighter than the rest of the sky.Well, we've run good 207 miles today and our spirits are slowly getting better.
