"The romance of sailing is undeniable. Gliding through the water, the wind in your hair and the sun on your face is as good as it gets – thought it isn't always so blissful. When there's a gale blowing and your crew mates are bent over the side, bidding farewell to their lunch, things may not seem so rosy. But that's the beauty of going to sea – you never know quite what to expect. There is always a new lesson to be learnt or a new delight to be experienced."

Rod and Viviane talked very enthusiastically about the place where they live and we decided to give it a try. Bay of plenty enjoys one of the highest proportions of sunny days in NZ, has some superb beaches and is a major centre for a variety of water sports. And for all 12 days we've been here we had always sunny days (the nights got quite cold to 15 C). We enjoyed short strolls from the marina and loved Mt Maunganui beach. Whole atmosphere here is very relaxing, locals are keen sailors/fishermen and very friendly people too. We even attended a Kiwi's wedding of Scott and Ilona.

We're leaving tomorrow to go slowly back up north and get ready for our departure from NZ.

PS: 30 kg Manson Supreme is our primary anchor now with Delta on stand by.
